Admission FAQ

UPTC weights the five ICFES Saber 11 areas (Critical Reading, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Social Studies, English) with program-specific percentages. The result is a score from 0 to 100. For Medicine, for example, Critical Reading weighs 30% and Natural Sciences 25%. The exact weights per program are published in the official Tabla de Ponderaciones (Resolution 19 of 2014).

No. According to UPTC itself, applicants who took the Saber 11 after 2000 face no minimum score per area or overall: spots are awarded in strict descending order of weighted score. This differs from other weighted universities like UIS, which does enforce an eliminatory minimum per area.

Yes. UPTC reserves special quotas for top graduates from official Boyacá schools, indigenous communities, displaced persons, and high-performance athletes. These quotas are handled separately from the ordinary process and have their own requirements described in the official call.

Yes. Your UPTC weighted score is calculated by multiplying your result in each ICFES Saber 11 area by the percentage UPTC assigns to that area for your target program, then summing the five results on a 0–100 scale. Each program has its own weight combination, published in the university's official weighting table.

The ICFES global score (0–500) weighs the five areas with a fixed formula: Critical Reading, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Social Studies triple-weighted, English single-weighted. UPTC's weighted score (0–100) uses completely different, program-specific weights set by the university. That's why two applicants with the same ICFES global score can end up in very different positions once their UPTC weighted score is calculated.
